I got asked alot when i was on youtube, to do a "MAC starter kit" video. Now, realisticly...your never going to be able and buy ALL these products in one go..it would probably take you a few months or cause serious damage to your bank account. Therefore, if you are trying to start up a mac collection...i would advise you pick up these / aim to have them in your collection, as of the top of my head these are some of my favourites from MAC:
. Either Face and Body foundation or Studio Moisture Tint
. Select Cover Up concealer
. MSF Natural
. Trace gold and pink swoon blush
. Paint pot in bare study and blackground.
. Orb, Shroom, Mystery, Satin Taupe, antiqued, retrospeck and Naked Lunch eyeshadows
. Fluidline in Blacktrack
. 129 brush
. 217 and 224 brush
. Either Angel or See Sheer Lipstick (depending on your skintone!)
I was also asked the question alot of "Im going to MAC, and i have "x amount of money" to spend. What should i get. Well...these are my reccomendations, with my favourite shades in brackets.
Around £20 - Pick two eyeshadows (satin taupe and shroom), or Pick a blush (Tenderling), or pick a lipstick and an eyeshadow (See Sheer and Satin Taupe).
Around £50 - 2 eyeshadows, A blush and a lipstick. (Satin Taupe and shroom, tenderling and see sheer).
If looking to spend £100 plus, then look at the list at the top of this post, of a full kit, and pick whatever takes your fancy really :)
These are a few other items that i wouldnt say are ESSENTIAL, but if you already have alot of the standard mac (eg. eyeshadows, blushes, foundations etc) you should check out.
- PIGMENTS. I wouldnt go near these if not skilled with makeup because they can be really messy. I would reccomend vanilla and chocolate brown.
- BRUSHES. They are really expensive at MAC, which is why i wouldnt include them in a list for someone at their FIRST time at MAC, because i think its best to use good products with drugstore brushes, than bad products with good brushes.
- STROBE CREAM AND LIQUID LOTION. Always makeup artists faves. I love them too..but i mean, theres not alot of point buying them if your just going to use them with a shitty foundation.
I also got asked alot about things i would NOT reccomend.
1) MASCARAS. They're not bad. Infact they're very good and i would happily use them..but so are drugstore ones. Go for rimmel sexy curves or Loreal Voluminous instead because they are a fraction of the price.
2) LIPGLASS. If your a really girly girl and really into your lipgloss then yeah i guess go for it. But in my opinion mac lipsticks are the best lip products MAC do. ALL the lipglasses are sticky, and also incredibly overpriced for lipgloss. Revlons are just as good if not better.
3) THE SKINCARE. I tried a few cleansers and exxfoliaters..and honestly, MAC should just stick to doing what they do best...makeup.
Hope this little guide helped some of you...or maybe gave you some inspiration to go shopping!
